Kid-friendly attractions in Philadelphia
One great thing about Philadelphia is that no matter what your age, you can still get a taste of this fabulous US city. Philadelphia is great destination for history tours, city breaks or food tasting tours. But it is also great for families who want to relax and spend some quality time together, while in the same time discovering this historic US city.
There are plenty of kid-friendly attractions in Philadelphia, and you won’t need to search too long to find them either. Here’s a list of family attractions in Philly that I’m sure you and your family will enjoy:
The Academy of Natural Sciences
This venerable museum has celebrated its 201st anniversary in 2013. As the oldest museum of its kind not only in the United States, but also in the Western world, the Academy of Sciences is a must for anyone with an interest in nature, animals or the environment. Kids will love this attraction, as well. Not only is the museum’s playground one of the coolest and most educative in the city, but they can also engage in various workshops and interactive activities. And there are giant dinosaur skeletons, too.
Please Touch Museum
Speaking of interactivity, it is hard to imagine a museum that is more so than the Please Touch Museum. Basically a children’s museum (and not any kind, but one of the oldest and biggest in the country) Please Touch is the place where children lead the way while adults can just relax or even join the party. Children can roam between the streets of a miniature reproduction of central Philadelphia, join the Mad Hatter for a tea party in Alice’s Wonderland, or run their own supermarket.
Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse
This is a perfect attraction for toddlers and small children. Ideal in a rainy day, this historic house in Philadelphia hosts an original and highly entertaining playground. There various play rooms and toy rooms inside, as well as a children’s train. Another great plus of this attraction is that it is entirely cost-free.
World Cafe Live – Children concerts
For a more casual attraction, try the live music sessions at World Cafe Live. A cafe that is also children friendly is a rare sight. This is why the Peanut Butter and Jam concerts hosted here are so popular. Here children can enjoy a gig and a pint (non-alcoholic, of course) with their family or friends, just as adults do.
