There are few other more pleasant activities than a summer road trip. Include a few noisy summer festivals in your itinerary, and you’ve just obtained the perfect recipe for an unforgettable holiday. Of course, in a big country like the US, and especially in a time of recession, traveling from coast to coast in search for the ultimate summer party might be a bit too costly – if not time consuming. A more budget friendly alternative might be to drive along one of the two coasts: hence the idea to write today’s post about the hottest summer festivals on the East Coast:

Bonnaroo, Tennessee

Bonnaroo is a very artsy festival that takes place every summer on the land of a private farm in the state of Tennessee. The festival brings together a very eclectic crowd, lots of artistic manifestations and film screenings, but, most importantly, a very impressive line-up. Over 100 artists have participated in the 2012 edition, including big names like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Radiohead, Alice Copper and Foster the People.

Miami is an all year entertainment hot spot, but its Ultra Music Festival is definitely the place to be for dance music lovers. The one to give the start for the festival season every hear, the Ultra Festival usually takes place in spring, but I have decided to include it on my list anyway, as weather in Miami at this time of the year is warm enough to allow beach parties. This one week event is a must for anyone who wants to see the word’s trendiest DJ’s performing in Miami’s clubs.

Made in America Festival, Pennsylvania

One much appreciated and widely popular festival you can still enjoy this summer is the Made in America Festival in Philadelphia. Between the 1st and 2nd of September 2012, veterans of American hip-hop and rock scene like Pearl Jam and Jay-Z will perform live in front of Philly’s cheering crowds.

The Governor’s Ball, New York

The Governor’s Ball on Randall’s Island in NYC is not only a one of a kind music fest, but also a great opportunity to visit United Sates’ largest and most celebrated city. A very new apparition on the scene of summer music events, the Governor’s Ball has already made lots of fans due to a nice selection of contemporary musicians and bands of various genres and but also due to its exquisite selection of street food.
