Best US Mountain Resorts to Visit in Summer
Summer is much too often (and, in my opinion) unfairly, associated with seaside resorts. While it’s true that beaches and water sports tend to be highly entertaining, spending your summer vacation in a ski resorts does come with certain advantages. Let’s just look at some of them: crisp mountain air, plenty of activities and hiking, breathtaking views and in some cases less people to bump into. Here are, according to the US Wanderer team, some of the best US mountain resorts to visit in summer:
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Overlooking the sharp peaks of the Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole is indeed a brilliant summer destination. Apart from the great opportunity to hike in the Grand Teton National Park or drive around the close-by Yellowstone National Park, you can also enjoy the Old West atmosphere, lively pubs and most of all, impressive number of souvenir shops (there’s even one themed exclusively around Christmas).
Crystal Mountain, Washington
The Crystal Mountain in Washington is a great choice for East coast holidaymakers who are not willing to adventure as far as Colorado. The scenic gondola rides atop the mountain are the most popular attraction here, but you might also enjoy hiking, taking a guided park tour or playing disc golf.
When it comes to the best US summer resorts to visit in summer, Aspen Colorado is the obvious choice. We cannot but include this famous ski resort in our guide: summers in Aspen are sunny and eventful. From culinary art events to political speeches, it all happens in Aspen. Not to miss the Fall in Love with Aspen festival, the extreme sports downhill races and the Snowmass Village Free Summer Concerts.
Sundance Resort, Utah
Sundance Resort in Utah has been recently advertised as the best resort in Utah. It might as well be so, as this top resort doesn’t lack the scenery, not the facilities necessary for a dreamy summer vacation. The summer season debuts in May and attracts visitors with scenic hikes, romantic gondola rides, horse riding classes and river rafting sessions.
Timberline Lodge, Oregon
The Timrberline Lodge in Oregon is well known for its part in the horror movie The Shining. This timber giant in the Oregon Rockies has received a lot of media attention ever since, but few people know that it benefits form the most persistent snows in the US. Standing at an elevation of 5960 feet, the resort allows visitors to ski all year round.
